This Album would never have materialised without the bravery and inspiration of one woman who confided in me her experiences at the hands of a controlling and coercive husband. What she told me affected me deeply and I, and our mutual friend Danielle, were desperate to help her in any way we could. But there was nothing we could do but to listen and offer support and understanding and hope that one day she would find a way to escape. My frustrations grew as time went by, and I was finding it increasingly difficult to deal with knowing that a friend was in an deeply unhappy relationship with no way out. A prisoner in her own home. I started to write down my thoughts which soon turned into poems. The poems then transformed into song lyrics and the story was beginning to take on a life of its own. I began putting melodies to the songs. The lyrics and melodies kept on coming and I was finding it hard to keep up with the ideas that were literally competing in my head to be the first committed to paper. I started to research the subject. It was an experience that I will never forget. It had an energy of its own. Like it was my mission to see this thing through, or even a calling that this story had to be told. I had written 15 songs along with the melodies, in the space of 2 months. These songs tell the story of not only my friend but other people, both men and women, who are in a similar situation.

As long as I have known Annaliese, she has shown me graciousness, love, friendship and evenyually trust. I have nothing but admiration for her as she has an enduring courage and resilience in the face of adversity. I hope and pray that one day her life – and many others who are in the same situation - will follow the path of this story to a happy ending, what ever that may be - where freedom prevails.

A loving thank you to my beautiful friends Annaliese and Danielle whose endless enthusiasm, encouragement and advice - oh, and the occasional mickey taking that kept me grounded - spurred me on to complete the CD. You are true friends to me and I love you both to the stars and back.

A massive thank you to my big bro Steve who inspired me to take up the guitar many, many years ago, and very kindly endured the first draft of the CD and offered some invaluable advice on what worked and what didn’t. A special thank you to David Booth of The Recording Booth Studio who was kind enough to teach me the fundamentals of Mixing my music. You made the world of difference David and I learnt a lot in the short time we spent together. I hope the end result is to your liking.
